Lovely lunch in the Bistro. Tasty soup and a fresh tasting sandwich. The staff are attentive yet happy to leave us to chat. My only issue is the much reduced menu compared to last year. The snack menu is very bread-based, whilst the previous menu offered the lovely fluffy and more healthy omelettes.
A lovely lunch with friends. I organised a lunch for me and 7 former colleagues. Everyone arrived at different times, because they were travelling by train, so some of us were there a couple of hours before the time our table was booked …
We had a meal in the restaurant. We received a very warm welcome, followed by swift and attentive service. The menu had a good choice and the food was flavoursome, plentiful and well cooked. The young waiter is worth a separate note as he …
Lovely hotel, all the staff were so helpful and friendly. We stayed for one night to break our drive, the room was clean and well equipped, especially for the price. Late brunch on Saturday was lovely, I’m really sorry to our lovely waitress for not taking your name, you brightened our day (she was on service for breakfast, brunch and lunch 20 Jan).
The Angel and the Royal are a historical gem! A historically common stop on the main North/South Road in England, his hotel was a frequent stops for members of Royal Families. The rooms are well crafted. The bathroom was stellar! The courtyard is a gift. And the food was amazing! The best place to stay in Grantham. Hot tip- when you stay here walk out the back and visit St Wulframs Church.
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and the reason for 4 stars is because of the room we stayed in 304 located at the top of the hotel. Even with the sash windows open and the curtains open, the temperature in the room was "hot" & "stuffy" no air con, there was an excellent fan but we couldn't sleep with the noise of the fan going all night. The most important service of a hotel is a good sleep in my opinion.
We arrived on Sunday and were warmly greeted by Helena who was a very courteous and polite member of staff who we interacted with every afternoon and evening. A great asset to the hotel although we found out this is temporary for her and that she would be soon departing on an adventurous holiday. All of the staff were polite and fantastic from the ladies serving in the restaurant and the barman.
The food and service in the restaurant was excellent, we would certainly recommend eating there at some point as a resident or non resident. We didn't have breakfast as it was £14.95 per person and we are not big breakfast eaters. A smaller package at half the price offering tea or coffee with the option of toast or a croissant or a tea cake or a bowl of cereal would and could be popular as a suggestion.
The reception, bar, bistro, restaurant are all well maintained and the downstairs toilets have both been recently renovated by the look of them. Hopefully the rooms will soon follow.
We would certainly visit and stay again!
Stayed for one night mid week, lovely spacious room on the 3rd floor, warm and comfortable. Had toiletries, bottled water and biscuits as added extras, easy parking £4 and check in and out was ok, receptionists for both a bit snooty, but apart from that all good.
We stayed for 4 nights early in September. The weather was unexpectedly hot, and so was our room in the evening. We quickly figured out how to cool it using their fan and two open windows. We greatly enjoyed our stay, the cool shaded patio was delightful, as was the food and service. We highly recommend this historic hotel.
Came for New Year eve drinks and had pre booked table in bistro. Arrived and told table had been taken and we were seated in snug. Couldn't hear music. Staff however very pleasant.
